What happens when I make a report?

CEOP helps children keep safe online.  If you are being abused we will do everything we can to make you safe.  Please remember whatever has happened it is not your fault and nothing you say will shock or surprise us, we deal with this every day.

If you make a report to us one of the first things we will do is contact you by phone or email to make sure you are safe.

Try not to worry, we know it is hard but the most important thing to remember is you are not to blame and we are here to help you.

What do we do with your report?

  • If you decide to report to us, all you need to do is tell us what has happened. Try not to worry, just tell us everything you know.
  • Your report will be read by a Child Protection Advisor who works on the Child Protection team at CEOP. They will immediately start thinking about how they will help you. Our Child Protection team are specialist workers who have helped thousands of children. They will not be surprised or shocked about anything you tell them.
  • A Child Protection Advisor will contact you as soon as they can. When they contact you they will talk about what you have reported and and will work with you to make a plan to keep you safe.
  • The Child Protection Advisors job is to make sure you are as safe as possible. They may need to talk to other professionals in order to keep you safe. They might not be able to keep what you tell us secret but they will only share what has happened if they have to. They will always take your feelings into account when deciding the best ways to help you.
  • If the Child Protection Advisor feels that you are unsafe and need immediate protection they will talk with you about sharing your report with your parents or a trusted adult.
